Passwords are about the worst thing about the whole computer age. I hate remembering them. I hate coming up with them. I hate storing them away (in places I long ago forgot). So everybody tries to come up with clever passwords they can easily remember. Thus, we have the list of the 500 most common passwords. You think you’re being clever, and so did the 15,000 other people who came up with the exact same password.

The good people over at whatsmypass.com say that 1 in 9 people use at least one password from this list and one out of 50 use one of the top 20 most common passwords.

Only one curse in the top ten! So, yeah, you’ve be warned. Now go read the list…

A good password should consist of numbers, symbols and no words found in the dictionary. A phrase, or something easily remembered where you drop all the vowels and capitalize the first letter of each word is an easy trick. For instance, "17115 San Pedro Ave" is a lousy password (particularly if it is your address). But, convert it to "17115&SnPdrAvn!" and you've got yourself a pretty hardened password. Looking at the list I see the most popular passwords haven't changed much in the last 15 years. I've used a few of those in the top 20 successfully myself. I'm surprised that "guest" and "friend" didn't make the list.

haha I guess I am blessed with the Password smarts, none of the ones I use or have come up with are even on this list of the top 500. Thankfully let's hope it stays that way so this statistic is just that a STATISTIC!!!
