Red & white, or black & gold? This weekend, football fans across the country will pick their colors to support either the Arizona Cardinals or the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII.
President Obama has picked the Steelers to win, but I have to disagree with our commander-in-chief. All season long, I’ve watched Kurt Warner lead the Cardinals to victory; many times when no one thought they’d win. The NFC championship game, when they beat Philadelphia, comes to mind.
I’m a big fan of underdogs; I like it when everyone says there’s no way someone will win, then they do. Warner, who is 37 years old, started this year as Matt Leinart’s back up. Plus, as far as I know, he’s the only NFL quarterback to get cut from a team, and get a job as a grocery store bag boy, then make it back to the league.
Now he’s back in the Super Bowl.
I’m not alone in thinking Warner is going to pull out a victory this weekend. Today, at the end of the newscast, Elsa and Don both said they think the Cardinals will win. (Beamer chose to abstain from making a prediction.)
I know the Steelers are a good team; Ben Roethlisberger is an amazing quarterback. I just think that this is the year the “old man” shows that he’s still got a few more touchdowns up his sleeve.
