This past Monday, I turned 30 and celebrated my birthday with Britney Spears.
I know there are people out there who will hate on me for going to see her in concert, but I really don’t care. She is a great entertainer.
I’ve been a Britney fan since the very beginning, but this is the first time I’ve actually gotten to see her perform. The entire show, opening acts to the finale, was amazing. The costumes were great and Britney looked great. (Or as my husband said, “Britney looks hot.”)
It was fun to be there, at the Toyota Center (in Houston), and see an arena full of people there to see the Pop Princess back in action.
While I know much of the concert was lip-synched, her dancing was back to what we expect from her (nothing like that horrendous performance at the 2007 MTV Music awards). It has got to be one of the best shows I’ve been to in a very long time.
I snapped as many pictures as I could (click the slideshow icon beneath Britney’s photo to view the 50-plus photos), and I even shot a few little videos with my digital camera. The audio isn’t the best, but one of the videos is from when she sang “Slave” and the other is from “Baby One More Time.” (The Pussycat Dolls opened for Britney. There are few pictures of them. They were actually pretty good performers as well.)
Backtracking a bit, while waiting for the show to actually begin, I did a little “people watching.” I was impressed at all the boyfriends/husbands who came to the concert with their women; obviously there to do a nice thing, but also racking up the brownie points. My husband was one of them. The tickets and a 3-day weekend in Houston (complete with great meals and shopping) were my birthday gift.
After all the ups and downs Britney has had over the last few years, I’m glad to see she’s back to being the superstar that she is. I’m already looking forward to the next tour.
