SAN ANTONIO - A local school board member is at the center of a sex scandal after he was found hiding in the closet at the home of one of the district's principals.
That board member is Harlandale trustee Joshua Cerna.
The school board didn't say much about it Monday night, but I did confirm the district's lawyer is now investigating this situation. It's all laid out in a law enforcement report that's been making the rounds at the Harlandale school district for the past few days.
It basically says board member Josh Cerna was caught having an affair with a district principal.
Several speakers at Mondays board meeting tried to bring up the sex scandal swirling around Cerna but were cut off by the board and its attorney.
They wanted to talk about a sheriff's department report from a family disturbance call on December 5th. The report says the husband - who is a police officer - suspected his spouse was having "marital affairs" and told her he would be away for the night. Later he found Josh Cerna inside his house with his wife who is a district principal.
"The issue is we have a gentlemen who in my opinion is using his power as a board member to influence the employee that he's supposedly having an affair with", said George Alejos who tried unsuccessfully to speak at the meeting.
"This is just an unfortunate misunderstanding" says Cerna. The school board member claims he was just dropping off food for the school's holiday party at 10 o'clock at night at the principals house.
I asked Cerna what happened inside the house when the husband came home. "I can't answer that but there's not truth to any of the affair. I've always tried to maintain integrity and professionalism when dealing with our employees", said Cerna.
But the report goes on to say when the husband came into the house - Cerna ran and hid in a closet.
I asked him why he would run into the closet if he was not having an affair. Cerna said: "I can't speak to that".
Cerna is no stranger to controversy or the Trouble Shooters. I've been reporting on him for almost a decade, including catching him on the beach in Florida when he was supposed to be in a conference back in 2006.
I'll let you know when the district's investigation wraps up and if it finds anything was improper in this case.
At this time, we've decided not to name the principal involved.
