The head of SAISD's Adult & Community Education program is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation after promoting her son to a higher paying job.
Guadalupe Ruvalcaba has been on leave for more than two months after a call to the district's fraud hotline triggered the investigation and a audit.
The district says Ruvalcaba had been given approval years ago to hire her two sons to teach part time in the program, but recently she promoted one of them to a full time position at a higher salary.
"Earlier this year we had questions about one son given a new position with expanded duties and increased pay. And so we began investigating if that was done appropriately", said SAISD spokesperson Leslie Price.
The tip to the fraud hotline came just after I broke the story last October that employees with the district's federal programs were funneling contracts to their wives and friends.
Ruvalcaba could not be reached for comment.
SAISD says it hopes to complete the investigation and a full management audit of the Adult & Community Education department soon.
