The head of SAISD's Adult & Community Education program is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation after promoting her son to a higher paying job.

Guadalupe Ruvalcaba has been on leave for more than two months after a call to the district's fraud hotline triggered the investigation and a audit.

The district says Ruvalcaba had been given approval years ago to hire her two sons to teach part time in the program, but recently she promoted one of them to a full time position at a higher salary.

"Earlier this year we had questions about one son given a new position with expanded duties and increased pay. And so we began investigating if that was done appropriately", said SAISD spokesperson Leslie Price.

The tip to the fraud hotline came just after I broke the story last October that employees with the district's federal programs were funneling contracts to their wives and friends.

Ruvalcaba could not be reached for comment.

SAISD says it hopes to complete the investigation and a full management audit of the Adult & Community Education department soon.

Seems like no one here knows her personally and just going on mere speculation. If any of you had any clue you'd know all the good that has gone into the program. Oh well I guess some people feel like they have to run their mouth on half truths...

Karma is a mofo. She had done so many people wrong for so many years and had always gotten away with it. They should investigate further.

SAISD acts as if there were no other well prepared candidates! but the leadership sets the tone and consider what the board just voted. in spite of many passionate requests that the Stadium NOT be prepared for professional use they did just that. Garza, board chair, by thumbing his nose at the community reinforces that the individual benefit is much more important than what is right. Garza is hell bent on having his way and stops at nothing. I think he has under estimated the opposition.

the approval for that should have never been given in the first place...creates too many issues down the line, as this circumstance is showing...oops on the district's part...

There are issues involving family working for family (nepotism) which involve real, and perceived, favoritism in perks and promotions. This is why the Harlandale board member having an extramarital affair with a Harlandale principal SHOULD have resulted in her being fired and him being removed from the board. People shouldn’t be so flippant about this stuff. Yes, it seems to be usual in politics, including public school administrations, but is SHOULDN’T be. Speaking as a former DoD civil servant, I can tell you that those paid directly from public funds must be, like Caesar’s wife, “above reproach.” And geez, @el coyote! Why don’t you let your racist attitudes show a little bit, hum?
