Jaie Avila is co-anchor of "News 4 WOAI Today" and an award-winning investigative reporter with the News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooters unit.

One of Jaie's investigations led to the indictment of a San Antonio school official accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the district. Jaie also went undercover to expose city utility workers literally sleeping on the job. And one of his many consumer reports uncovered San Antonio furniture stores selling filthy, used mattresses as if they were new.

Before coming to News 4 WOAI in 2004, Jaie was a reporter for ABC-owned KABC-TV in Los Angeles. He was the station's primary reporter on the Kobe Bryant sexual assault case, the deadly San Diego County wildfires and the abduction/murder of Danielle Van Dam.

Avila began his on-camera career at KXAN-TV in Austin, Texas, where from 1991 to 1994 he was a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter. During that time Avila covered the Branch Davidian standoff, the Luby's cafeteria massacre and political stories from the state capitol. Avila was also an investigative reporter at ABC-15 in Phoenix where he was named "Reporter of the Year" by the Associated Press for his investigation into food stamp fraud.

Prior to beginning his on-air career, Avila worked as a writer/producer for KCAL-TV in LA, as a researcher for Good Morning America, and an assistant producer at FOX 11 in Los Angeles.

Jaie and his wife Jessie, a native of Austin, are happy to be back in Texas. They are the proud (and busy) parents of two daughters, one son and an adopted chocolate lab.

You can read Jaie's "Too Much Coffee" blog here at WOAI.com, and look for him on Twitter.
