Investigative Reporter Brian Collister is part of the News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooters team.

Brian has specialized in investigative reporting for most of his career. Since graduating from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, Brian has also worked at stations in Austin, Phoenix, Bryan, and Lake Charles.

His awards include six regional Emmys.  Brian's most recent Emmy was in 2007 for a story uncovering hundreds of DWI cases that were thrown out of court because the arresting officer did not show up testify.

Brian’s Emmys also include one in 2003 for his investigation into City Councilman David Garcia’s questionable billing for work as a court-appointed attorney and his relationship with Judge M’Liss Christian.  Garcia resigned after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor related to handling of his campaign funds uncovered during the District Attorney’s investigation and Christian was voted out of office.

Brian also received an Emmy in 2002, for his in-depth investigation that uncovered the first reported case of HIV transmission through our public blood supply – the first since stricter screening measures were enacted in the late 1990s.  Brian has also received awards from the Associated Press, the RTNDA Morrow, Dallas Press Club, National Headliners, and others.

Brian is an active member of a national organization called Investigative Reporters and Editors. To further your right to public information, Brian is also a board member of the Texas Freedom of Information Foundation.

Brian's job is to uncover fraud, corruption, and government waste. To do that he needs your help! If you have a story idea, email BrianCollister@woaitv.com.
