SAN ANTONIO - There is a lot of love in San Antonio for school principals. We received over a thousand nominations for the best principal in town; the best response ever in our “Best of SA” competition.

The top four…

Yvonne Anglada, Judson Early College Academy

Bill Boyd, Reagan High School

Milton Fields, Wagner High School

Jeffrey Davenport, Forester Elementary School

Principal Yvonne Anglada received thousands of votes on WOAI.com. In fact, she set a new record for most votes in our “Best of SA” series.

Strolling through the halls at Judson Early College Academy, the news had already started to spread. You would think this Judson ISD principal was a rock star as we walked into classrooms and around campus.

Anglada says leading a school where students receive more than 60 hours of college credit before they graduate high school takes teamwork from everyone involved.

“It takes all of us to do a great job -- from anybody who works in your school, the parents, god parents, grandparents, teachers, staff and kids,” explained Anglada.

The Judson Early College Academy is the result of a partnership between JISD and Northeast Lakeview College. Located on the NLC Campus, JECA is a small campus designed to enable all students to earn an Associate's Degree of their choice and at the same time earn a distinguished high school diploma. The program is a four year program and two summer sessions are required between sophomore and junior years.

Way to go Principal Anglada on winning best principal!

Things like this are really kind of negative in a way. Certainly for anyone educator to excell and be successful in their assigned duties they need the support of all those other staff members around them and not to recognize those folks is a travesty

My son goes to JECA. Ms Anglada is the most dedicated education professional I've ever seen. She's involved with the students, parents, faculty, and staff. She's 100% committed to the success of her students in fulfilling the academic mission of the school. In a school district best known for sports, she has created an academic magnet school that will grant an AA and a high school diploma at the same time. She's accomplishing this with a student body that is Latino, African-American, and Anglo. She keeps everyone mission focused. We have always been a homeschool family, but my son did some research and said, "I want to go to this school for high school." I don't disagree that other principals may be doing the same quality of work, but Ms Anglada is NOT invisible. She's there every day. Every student knows her and now, every student is proud of her. This parent is also proud of her.

How can you really choose a winner for this catagory? They are all doing the job they were hired to do, backed by their vice principals and other staff members. The principal is rarely ever seen or heard from, kind of like a Dr., unless there is an extreme emergency.

I've heard that the Judson people are actively campaigning. People commenting should disclose the relationship to the "candidate" or whether they're active in the a booster's association. Take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt here. An example of "believing the media": Just because the alleged NL MVP Ryan Braun waged a public relations war and avoided being suspended for 50 games didn't mean he was the "best" player in the NL (which he was NOT), or even not guilty of PEDs. He just got off to avoid the black eye of giving an MVP trophy to Frank McCourt, now being forced to sell the team -- and the current pariah of baseball.

Ms. Anglada is a stand up Principal. She has a admirable relationship with students, teachers and parents. Taking time to support the students in their academic endeavors as well as their community involvement. It meant alot to see her at the games of students who play with community teams because there are no sports at JECA, this showed just how supportive she is of the all her students.. I've voted an undisclosed amount of times, and will continue to vote for her as she is so deserving.
