SAN ANTONIO – Every week we search for the Best in San Antonio, focusing on a new topic each week. This week we requested nominations for the best bowling alleys in San Antonio. The top four picks are below…

University Bowl

12332 W Interstate 10

Oak Hills Bowling

7330 Callaghan Road

AMF Wonder Lanes

1948 Austin Highway

Ponderosa Bowl

2118 Goliad Road

Whether it's the oh-so-stylish shoes or the clean amenities, San Antonians say University Bowl is the best in town.

“Thank you San Antonio. Thanks WOAI!” said University Bowl general manager Dottie San Martin. “We’ve always thought that we’re the best, and it’s nice to know that San Antonio feels that way as well.”

So what makes University Bowl better than all the others?

“Good food, cold beer, and lots of strikes,” explained San Martin. “We really try hard to do what our customers are looking for. We have the greatest lanes with the best technology.”

University Bowl has 32 lanes of fully animated, state of the art bowling, featuring awesome graphics and 13 fun themes for to choose from.  Programmable bumpers on all lanes make it fun for all ages. They’re open from 9am until midnight Sunday through Thursday, and stay open until 2am on Friday and Saturday.

You’ll find University Bowl on the Northwest Side (12332 IH 10 West at DeZavala). They’re on the access road of IH-10 West behind Krispy Kreme doughnuts and next to Star Furniture.

Granted,Bandera Super Bowl is out of SA city limits so smoking is allowed but if you go during the day it is usually smoke free. I love the fact it is open 24/7 so anytime you get the urge to bowl you are all set. Also find the staff there friendly and accommodating.

Top story on WOAI website for a couple days? Bowling? Why not throw Obama up there and his military cuts? Oh my bad, NBC.

I think AMF Wonder lanes on Austin Hwy. They have the best price in town at $10 per person, per visit, any time, any day, even during the extreme session in the evenings. They also oil the lanes regularly, so when you want to practice it's not a waste of money. They have lots of room there, you don't feel crowded, also very clean.

Back when I was at the peak of my bowling career, I enjoyed San Pedro Lanes, behind North Star Mall. If the old gang is still there, Hi guys, I miss you.

Turners Bowling Club is the most authentic - probably the oldest bowling alley in the State of Texas. Have 10 Pin lanes and 9 Pin lanes. Still allow smoking (ugh) and drinking. Visit the club and you will think you have stepped back in time.

What's the Best Bowling Alley in San Antonio? One that you can still smoke and drink in.

I'd say University bowl, only because Bandera Bowl still has smoking upstairs, and I hate smoke!
