SAN ANTONIO - Fiesta flare is a must for any Fiesta event.

Medals are an essential part of Fiesta. Organizations all across town create medals to sell or give away, with the goal being to collect as many as you can. King Antonio XLIX is credited with starting the tradition in 1971 when he put 200 royal coins on ribbons and distributed them at Fiesta events. If you have an opportunity to shake hands with Fiesta royalty or do the Happy Dance for Cleto, you may be lucky enough to have a medal slide into your palm.

We asked and you responded with over 51,000 votes. It was so close! But in the end UTSA wins best Fiesta medal with more than 21,000 votes.

UTSA President Dr. Ricardo Romo designed the medal that reads "We Are UTSA." The medal winner received 21,275 votes. Dr. Romo credits the student body for the big win.

“Behind me are some of the people who are the force of this victory because they got to vote and talked to others to get them to vote -- and this makes our campus visible and great. Thank you for being here!” said Dr. Romo in front of a courtyard full of UTSA students.

Our Cleto Rodriguez was a little upset he wasn't the victor. He says his "Where's Cleto?” medal is the season's hottest trend.

Here are all four of the top nominees…

I met a fella the other day who graduated from UTSA with a degree in Water Resource Engineering. I was very impressed with his knowledge and the way he bagged my groceries so the bread and chips didn't get smashed.

LOL...Dr. Romo is the PRESIDENT of the University! Why wouldn't he be a part of the representation of UTSA?

Must Dr. Romo really always be the center of attention at UTSA. he should learn to step back and let the students take part in the design themselves. Can never just let anyone from UTSA shine. I guess he's the Christina Aguilera at UTSA.

Voting is closed, and we can't see the final totals. Sadly, last I saw we were still a little behind UTSA. But OH MY GAWD, you people are amazing!! We are a group of 40-50, and yes, we reached out to our brother and sister courts and other organizations in San Antonio, but last I saw we were just a FRACTION of ONE PERCENT behind a major university with thousands of students and alumni. Do you have any idea what a fantastic showing that is? There isn't anything we can't accomplish if we really put our minds to it. I am SO PROUD to be a member of The Alamo Empire. And those of you in San Antonio, watch WOAI 6:30 news to see what the final numbers are. Who knows, maybe they weren't showing the totals that last little bit and we might have won! Jay H. Smith President of the Board Royal, Sovereign & Imperial Court of the Alamo Empire, Inc.

@disembodiedspi- You're a joke buddy. For students at Texas it's possibly a new tradition. So keep your ugly comments to yourself.
