Ronald Reagan High School Band
SAN ANTONIO – First it was cheerleaders, then football coach, so let’s stay with the Friday Night Fever high school theme this week in our Best of SA series.

In Texas, high school football teams may be king, but marching bands are a league of their own! Friday nights just wouldn’t be the same without marching bands. The astonishing pageantry and precision make halftime an event. The tradition rich and teambuilding experience stays with most students for the rest of their lives.

So which band stands out above the rest? We asked for your nominations, and then waded through well over a thousand emails to find the top four…

Claudia  Taylor “Lady Bird” Johnson High School

Southwest High School

Ronald Reagan High School

#reagan

East Central High School

With a total just short of a million total votes, the competition was fierce! Students, family, teachers and administrators pitched in via our webpoll on WOAI.com, texts and tweets.

This week's best high school marching band in town is Reagan High School.

“Thank you! Thank you very much!” said Band Director Levi Chavis.

Congratulations Reagan!

Best Hot Chocolate

Hot chocolate is a sweet, creamy treat that's like heaven in a cup on a crisp, cold morning. Some like it strong, some like it light and milky, and some even like it spicy. We want to know who you think blends it up best here in SA.

Email your nomination to...

bestofsa@woaitv.com

On Friday, we'll announce the top four and start the voting.

Really Wagner High School has two straight state titles and a National Title this year in New York. So I think that they should hold a high mark for the best marching band in San Antonio.

Well if you're gonna bring up UIL, Reagan placed above Johnson in both prelims and finals at State.

lol, to whoever posted about the Texas Marching Classic on Oct 13, this competition was the 1st they have ever held, new competition and Johnson was the only SA school that paid to compete against only 4 schools (5A) which were all from Austin and surrounding areas! Really, this makes them the best. Come on, I'm in the music circle and this is ridiculous. See for yourselves: http://www.texasmarchingclassic.com/uploads/fmcontent/file/2012_TMC_Prelims_5A.pdf

BEST BAND in SA is BRENNAN HS of NISD. These guys are true champions and have only been around a couple years. Not sure what poll this was but Reagan is not even in the top 10 in SA.

Everybody at Reagan voted as fairly as anybody else. There was no magical app, we just have many more dedicated supporters who know the best when they see it. At any rate, Reagan won fairly and if somebody deserved it more than we did, they would have gotten it.

I am a mother of 3kids (2 girls and 1 son)and I will admit it that with my kids my focus has always been on sports,I was the sports Mom they played Basketball,Football,Baseball and Tennis but when my son came to me and announced that he wanted to join the band he was in the 6th grade and in my mind I was thinking ok he can be in band for his 6th grade year but next year when he's in the 7th he will be eligible to play sports,so I would have to bide my time and thats what I did,I was the supportive Mom and got involved in the band booster, I was even elected Secretary, let me tell you it was alot of work funraising, selling, planning functions ensuring that the funds were available for kids when they needed something,we had some parents in our booster that were diehard band parents which made it that much more fun for me,now keep in mind that I'm still a Sports Mom or so I thought because let me tell you the 1st time I saw my son perform it was with the Sam Houston band (everyone knows Sam Houston puts on an Awesome show) I shed tears because for the first time ever I saw pure joy on my son's face and the confidence he carried with him throughout the performance,oh how proud I was of him because he found that special something that he has a passion for. Its been 5yrs since he first joined the band and to this day he still has that passion for Music. And I will admit that everytime I see him perform I shed those tears just like I did the very first time I saw him perform. So now I am a band booster Mom at The BEST school ever East Central High School and I would like to mention that our booster in top notch, dedicated hard working parents that make it all posible and Thank you Mrs K.Dyle. I have been converted and now I say that I am the PROUD parent of a member of the French Horn Line (Marcelino Luna) of the EAST CENTRAL GOLDEN HORNET Band. sincerly Ms. Becca :)
