SAN ANTONIO – If you love cookies and have the holiday spirit, boy do we have a treat for you!

Once upon a time there was a grandma named Amber, but all her grandchildren called her “Meemo.” That name became her bakery where she creates the best Christmas cookies ever. They are so yummy that Meemo received an award for all her hard work.

Whether covered in multicolored frosting, speckled with holiday cherries, or dipped in chopped nuts, cookies during the holidays define the concept of cheer. Case in point: What’s an appropriate “Thank You” gift to give Santa after he shuffles down your chimney to put presents under the tree? Cookies!

“Thank you so much! Thank you to everyone who voted. We really appreciate it. We love making Christmas cookies,” said Meemo's Bakery owner Amber Palacios. “We bake everything from scratch. We don't use any shortenings, oils or anything artificial. Everything is baked fresh everyday – so we get here really early.”

How early?

“It depends on how many orders we have for the day, but 4:30 – 5 o’clock,” said Palacious.

So which cookie is popular this year?

“Our sugar cookies have been a huge hit. Everybody loves our sugar cookies. They’re so good!” said Palacious with a smile. “It’s a recipe I found about thirty years ago.”

Christmas keeps Meemo busy!

“Our hands hurt by the time we’re done taking care of all the Christmas cookies,” said Palacious. “We probably make 500 a day. Maybe even more some days.”

You'll find Meemo's Bakery on West Sunset near Broadway. Together with her sweet little staff, she uses recipes that are more than 30 years old.
