Voters reached back to the 80s and picked Jazzercise as the best gym in San Antonio.

“I feel like crying, first of all,” said Stacey Perez, the owner of Perrin Beitel Jazzercise, which has been around for 20 years. “Second of all – our fabulous customers. If it wasn’t for them – we got a hold of everybody and they mobilized and they voted. They were very excited. They are going to be so thrilled with this because it was thanks to them and the other owners in San Antonio.”

So just what is Jazzercise?

“A Jazzercise workout is a one hour workout set to music,” explains Perez. “We combine it with Pilates and cardio box. You get everything in an hour. You get warm up, your aerobic, your strength training, your cool down and stretch at the end. All set to music with a group of fabulous people all together who motivate. There’s hooting and hollering and the instructor are A-1 at what they do. They love it and it shows.”

What is it about Jazzercise that appeals to people?

“The appeal is that it’s fun – first of all,” Perez told News 4 WOAI. “We have such a family atmosphere. This is so personal here. We get to know each other. You make lifelong friends. It becomes not just our workout, but also our social time.”

Am I the only one that doesn't get this? WOAI is looking for the best GYM in town and Jazzercise was voted #1? Correct me if I'm wrong, nothing against Jazzercise but isn't it a FITNESS CLASS that combines jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing at various locations like gyms, church halls, and school gyms? So when voting for best GYM, I'm thinking more along the line of a FACILITY (Gold's Gym, Planet Fitness, Lifetime Fitness and so on)that offer good customer service, equipment, clean looker rooms, fitness classes, and properly trained staff. So if Jazzercise is #1, then it should be a fitness class/progam or what ever you want to call it, not a gym. For some readers before you get your pantis all bunched up, I only used those three facilities as an example.

I have little doubt Lifetime is the best, IF you can afford it... which most people can't. That's one reason why it is so nice. And no, I don't go there, just saying that the clientele DO make the gym some of what it is, and if you exclude some elements of society that it will no doubt be more... civilized. I've been to expensive gyms and ghetto gyms so I'm just saying it like it is.

Krav Maga and Pete Hardy's team of instructors kicks major A**!!! They provide not only self defense techniques and courses, but awesome cardio and strength training! I've lost more weight and have gotten in better shape in the past year going there than i ever did at ANY gym! And Pete is WONDERFUL in getting involved in the community! Every self defense course costs and profits go to charity! THANK YOU PETE!

Crossfit is by far the best workout. I would challenge everyone reader to take just one class. The workouts (WOD's) change daily. You will be amazed at what you can do - step out of your comfort zone and change your life. If you have ever felt that " this is it, this is how getting older feels, loss of strengh - gaining of weight, then I challenge you to walk in to any CROSSFIT BOX and try it out. Im going on my third year and i love every min of it.

Sorry to everyone trying to hate on Jazzercise, but it really is the best workout I have encountered. I do love the Planet Fitness facility, but when I need to be pushed and have an all around GREAT workout, I'll go to Jazzercise. The instructors are helpful and passionate about what they do, which makes it more fun for me. And no, it is not an outdated exercise program for oldies. I am 19 years old, in pretty good shape, and it still kicks my butt, all the while being enjoyable.

Lifetime Fitness at The Rim is our favorite Gym. They have the best pools, 2 indoor and 2 outdoor. The greatest Whirlpool Spa anywhere, and two saunas and a fine steam room. The classes are interesting and motivating, and the personal trainers are really experienced. Our favorite is Brad Bowen. You have a choice of free weights, an amazing selection of Precor and Life Fitness machines, The free Motion weights are our choice. We have had memberships in Spectrum, Golds Gym, and The Concord AC prior to Spectrum buying them. The people at Lifetime Fitness really make it special. This gym isn't cheap but it is worth it. When you call ask for James, he'll work with you.

I have tried golds gym and I'll tell you that the facilities are the worst! The equipment is fine but the bathroom floors and the pool floors look as if they haven't been cleaned in years! Nasty! They are almost black with nasty buidup. Water fountians....one didn't work for almost one year! Never again....I'll pay more and stick with lifetime atleast the floors get cleaned!
