“Thank you so much!” said owner Natalie San Miguel. “Customers have been telling us that they have been voting for us, so we’re so excited that we are the winners this year. We’ve got menudo here every Saturday – all you can eat for $6.99.”
But does it really work?
“I keep getting customers back every Saturday, so it must work,” said San Miguel. “It’s a tradition actually in the Hispanic heritage that we have menudo for the hangovers. A couple of bowls puts you right back to where you were – on top.”
If you’re new to town, you may have never heard of menudo. It’s a traditional Mexican dish made with beef stomach. Lime, chopped onions, and chopped cilantro are often added, as well as crushed oregano and crushed red chili peppers. The spicy combination is also considered to be an effective hangover remedy, making it especially popular the morning after holidays. Many San Antonio families celebrate the New Year with a yummy bowl of menudo.
