SAN ANTONIO - It's a man's favorite thing to talk about -- if he has one. For some a man cave is the place where they can kick back, watch a game and not worry about the channel being changed. But others take it to a whole new level.
We asked you to submit pictures of man caves -- in search of the best one in San Antonio.
You flooded our inbox with pictures of taverns, easy-boy sanctuaries and poker rooms that rival casinos. We typically have four top picks to vote on, but this time around everyone was a contender!
There was quiet a few serious contenders, but when it came down to the final vote, Brett Smith’s man cave was chosen as the Best in SA.
“Thank you. And I want to thank everybody that voted for us,” Brett told News 4 WOAI. “I also want to thank my wife because she actually put us in the contest without me knowing about it. This will be cherished and hung on the wall forever.”
Brett’s man cave is actually a converted pool house. It includes a full bar with beer case, a kegerator beer tap and his own Patron shot machine that pours out at a mere five degrees. He has two 52-inch wall mounted TV's alongside a 60-inch. He also has two fully-stocked wall humidors and a custom built ventilation system to make sure the smoke doesn’t linger.
“We took our time. It took about two years to put the pieces together – just because we waited until we had the exact components we wanted in each part of the man cave,” Brett explained.
So what triggered this need for such a great man cave?
“It took until the first time I ever walked into a friend of mine’s man room,” said Brett. “I knew I had to have one someday. So it’s been a perpetual process since then.”
So is it important to have a man cave?
“I think it is. I think most men would agree – to have a place where you can get away. In fact, I’ll bet you a lot of wives would agree that it’s a good place to send the man out of the house when you want them out of the house. So I think it works on both side of the marriage
What does he like best about his man cave?
“To come down here and smoke a cigar – and watch three different sporting events at one time,” Brett said. “Plus my dog loves it down here. He’s got his own chair.”
