From most of the reviews I read online i would say yes. Most of the people who got the roof units had problems with the motors burning out due to solar heat. Not the case with the gable vent. Don't take my word for it. Feel free to do a google search and do a little research so you can see what consumers had to say about these products.

is it true that if it goes on the roof the motor has problems because of to much sun?

GAF MasterFlow® Solar Powered Vent Product Details Price From: $237.99 Manufacturer: Ll Building Products 1 Model Number: PRSOLAR UPC Number: 050206028513 I went down to the Home Depot on Fair Ave and 281 and saw them there. This product was not on their web site. They had a solar power roof vent and a solar power gable vent too. If you want to see a picture and more specs on these items just do a google search. Hope this was useful to you.

hunglow, I couldn't find a solar powered fan at Home Depot for $230. Do you have a part #?

I was just looking into these. Some experts claim these fans end up pulling cool air out of the interior of the house rather than ventilating the attic. Is this true or not? I would really appreciate expert, trustworthy advice.

Go to Home Depot. They sell a 500cfm for about $230. Got a lot of attic space? Then get about three for about the same price of just one of the ones advertised. Another thing . The fans that go on top of your roof are exposed to a lot more sun light and that will cause the motors to fail. Its better just to get a solar gable vent fan for $230.
