SAN ANTONIO - Jon Wayne Heating and Air Conditioning will be hosting the annual SkillsUSA HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) contest for the state of Texas on March 30, 2012 at their HVAC training facility in San Antonio, Texas.
Seven contestants from across the state will be competing in a demonstration of their mechanical, electrical, and HVAC industry knowledge in the extensive day-long competition. In the state of the art HVACR training lab at Jon Wayne Air, contestants will test their brazing, air measurement, electrical, and refrigerant component skills, as well as equipment troubleshooting abilities.
Founded in 1965 under its original name of VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America), SkillsUSA is a national non-profit organization for high school and college students and teachers, reaching over 300,000 members annually. It's goal is to prepare each student for their careers in trade, technical, skilled service and health occupations.
SkillsUSA contacted Don Rackler, owner of Jon Wayne Heating and Air Conditioning, because of his history with the organization and the success of his business. As a youth, Rackler won the National SkillsUSA Championship (then called VICA) competition in 1974. Rackler went on to found Jon Wayne Heating and Air Conditioning: San Antonio's largest residential heating and air conditioning company.
"This contest does wonders for the HVACR industry," Rackler says. "It introduces well trained HVACR technicians to this industry. They are prepared, confident, and knowledgeable." Rackler contributes his success in part to organizations such as SkillsUSA.
The winner of this years Texas State SkillsUSA HVACR competition will be awarded the opportunity to represent Texas in the national SkillsUSA HVACR competition in Kansas City, Missouri in June 2012.
