Redistricting Underway In Special Session Of Texas Legislature

The Texas Legislature continues the job of redistricting today, which the state Senate started on Saturday. The 30-day special session will focus on redrawing political maps based on the 2020 census data. It's a job that needs doing every ten years. Senator Joan Huffman, a Houston Republican who chairs the redistricting process, released the first draft of the proposed map. Senator Beverly Powell, a Democrat from Burleson, immediately characterized the map as racially discriminatory.
