Family jumps from second story apartment to escape fire

Orange Dancing Flame

A fire in a second floor garage apartment forced a San Antonio family to jump from the window to safety.

Firefighters say flames and smoke were pouring from the apartment in the 200 block of Esma Street when they arrived.

Flames had engulfed the stairway making it impossible for the family to get out using the stairs. The family of four, including two children, jumped from the second story window to get out of the apartment. All four suffered from smoke inhalation and were taken to hospitals for treatment. Three dogs were also rescued by firefighters.

An investigation is underway to determine a cause of the blaze.
